On another hot day New Zealand will set a total in their attempt to secure a rare series whitewash in Potchefstroom and have named an unchanged team.
South Africa, aiming to regain some pride, have made two changes. Aaron Phangiso, the left-arm spinner, will make his debut in place of Robin Peterson and Dale Steyn comes in for Morne Morkel.
This match is another chance for the fringe players in the South Africa team to show they should be retained for the next one-day series, which comes later in the season against Pakistan, when the AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla will again be available after suspension and injury.
New Zealand will end this tour in good spirits regardless of the result of this match and travel home in far better heart than appeared likely a week or so ago.
