LAHORE: Pakistan’s leading spinner Saeed Ajmal rocked the first PCB Awards ceremony, for year 2012 performances, with four top Awards. He was awarded PCB Test Bowler of the Year, ODI Bowler of the Year, Twenty20I Bowler of the Year and the special prize for Bowler of the Year (which PCB promised him after he was snubbed by ICC in the annual awards).
Nasir Jamshed was the only other player to receive more than one Award – he was declared PCB ODI and Twenty20 International Batsman of the year. Mohammad Hafeez, who is currently Number 1 all-rounder in the ICC ODI Rankings, received PCB Player of the Year award.
Azhar Ali, who scored most Test runs for Pakistan in 2012, was given PCB Test Batsman of the Year while Junaid Khan was declared PCB Emerging Player of the Year.
PCB also awarded the players from the Domestic Cricket. Haris Sohail, of ZTBL, earned PCB Most Valuable Domestic Batsman of the Year award whereas Zulfiqar Babar, of WAPDA, got the corresponding award in the bowler’s category.
The legends of the past were also honoured by PCB. Hanif Mohammad and Imtiaz Ahmad were given PCB Life Time Achievement award.
Mohammad Shakeel and Mohammad Jameel were named PCB Deaf Cricketer of the Year and PCB Blind Cricketer of the Year respectively. PCB Umpire of the Year award went to Ahsan Raza and Haji Bashir Kardar, of Multan, was given PCB Curator of the Year.
Apart from these awards, PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf announced cash prize of Rs. 500,000 [Approximately $5000] for each player who toured India to play the ODI and T20 series. An additional cash prize of Rs 500,000 was given to Mohammad Hafeez, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Saeed Ajmal and Nasir Jamshed. Rs 250,000 each was announced for the Team Management.
