Match Summary: England have fought back on the series with an easy win over the inform New Zealand by 8 wickets. Now the winner of the series will be determined on the last ODI match.
Winning the toss England captain Alistair Cook elected to field first. They picked up two early wickets and New Zealand were down to 91 for 3 after 25 overs. New Zealand kept losing wickets on regular intervals but they also had some wonderful innings played in the middle of the innings specially by Ross Taylor and Brandon McCullum. The former scored a wonderful century off 117 balls while the latter scored a quick firing 74 runs off just 36 balls with 9 boundaries and 4 massive sixes and took the team to 269 runs before they were all out on 49th over. James Anderson picked up 5 wickets for 34 runs while Chris Woakes picked up 3 wickets in his 10 overs giving away 68 runs.
Though initially it looked like it would be hard for England to chase down 270 runs but it wasn’t that much hard for the English side. Both the openers started off well scoring 89 runs at the opening stand from 20 overs when Ian Bell was dismissed scoring 44 runs. Trott coming to the crease continued the good batting when England lost the 2nd wicket at 149 runs. It was the other opener Cook after scoring 78 runs. After that England scored the rest of the 121 runs without any further damage to the side. Root was not out scoring 79 runs off just 56 balls while Trott was unbeaten at 65 runs as England won by 8 wicketswith 14 balls spear. The last ODI will be played on 23rd February at Auckland.
